History

Announced in January 2006 alongside the MacBook Pro, the iMac (Core Duo) was the first Mac desktop based on an Intel processor. Equipped with the Intel Core Duo processor, which integrated two processing cores on a single chip, the iMac (Core Duo) was significantly faster than its predecessor, the iMac (iSight), when running code compiled for Intel. It also featured higher bus and memory speeds, a more advanced graphics chipset, and a mini-DVI port with monitor extension support (a first for consumer Macs). It was available in two configurations: the 17-inch model, with a Core Duo processor at 1.83 GHz, cost $1,299 US dollars, while the 20-inch model, with a frequency of 2.0 GHz, cost $1,699 US dollars.
