Apple's eras

From a Los Altos garage to the first company with a billion dollars in sales: the nine years in which Apple learned how to exist.

In 1984 the Macintosh brought the graphical interface to the general public, with Ridley Scott's ad. Then Jobs's departure and his return in 1997.

1998 is the rebirth: the translucent iMac G3 brings Apple back to center stage and launches Jonathan Ive's design era. The «i» stands for internet.

With the iPod and iTunes, Apple becomes music and pop culture too. In 2001 the first Apple Stores open, to general skepticism.

On January 9, 2007 the iPhone is born and reinvents the phone. The same day Apple drops «Computer» from its name. Then App Store, iPad, Watch, AirPods.

From 2020 Apple designs its own processors, the M-series family: for the Mac it's the third major architecture change. Chip and system under one roof.
