History

The MacBook Air (13-inch, Late 2010) was introduced in October 2010, alongside the smaller MacBook Air (11-inch, Late 2010), and represented a significant strategic and technological shift in Apple's long-term notebook strategy, moving away from optical drives and hard drives toward internet-based services and flash storage. The MacBook Air (13-inch, Late 2010) was marketed with approximately the same processor and storage capacity as its predecessor, the MacBook Air (Mid 2009), but improved everyday performance with a faster graphics subsystem and flash-based storage with superior performance, at lower prices. It was launched in two configurations: dual-core processor at 1.86 GHz, 128 GB SSD, 2 GB of RAM, $1299 U.S., dual-core processor at 1.86 GHz, 256 GB SSD, 2 GB of RAM, $1599 U.S. Custom configuration options included 4 GB of integrated RAM (no third-party RAM upgrade was possible), a 2.13 GHz processor, and an external SuperDrive. The MacBook Air (13-inch, Late 2010) was replaced less than a year later with the faster MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011).
