Introduced in May 2002, this iBook was essentially a 100 MHz speed bump over the existing iBook line. All models also had VRAM increased to 16 MB with the Radeon Mobility card. The 600 MHz model with CD-ROM drive sold for $1,199 USD, the 700 MHz model with Combo drive cost $1,499 USD, and the 14.1-inch 700 MHz model sold for $1,799 USD.

• The 2002 iBook G3 represents one of the rarest cases in which Apple decided to increase processor speeds by only 100 MHz, a minimal update that testifies to the difficulty in technological progress during that period. • With a maximum price of $1799 for the 14.1-inch model, this laptop cost almost as much as a small used car, making Apple computers a luxury good accessible only to a few privileged individuals in the early 2000s. • The increase in video memory to 16 MB and the integration of the Radeon Mobility chip represented a significant leap in graphics capabilities, allowing an iBook for the first time to handle more demanding applications without performance compromises.
