History

Announced in January 2006 alongside the MacBook Pro, the iMac (Core Duo) was the first Mac desktop based on an Intel processor. Equipped with the Intel Core Duo processor, which featured two processing cores on a single chip, the iMac (Core Duo) was significantly faster than its predecessor, the iMac (iSight), when running code compiled for Intel. It also featured higher bus speeds and memory, an improved graphics chipset, and a mini-DVI port that supported display expansion (a first for consumer Macs). It was available in two configurations: the 17" model with a 1.83 GHz Core Duo processor cost $1299 USD, while the 20" model with a 2.0 GHz frequency cost $1699 USD.
