History

The iMac (Summer 2000) was the most affordable iMac up to that point. Essentially a re-edition of the iMac (Slot Loading) at a lower price (and without AirPort slot), the iMac (Summer 2000) was offered at $799 USD. It was available in Indigo, supplied with 64 MB of RAM, a 56k modem, and included the new Pro Mouse and Pro Keyboard from Apple. The iMac DV (Summer 2000) was essentially a refurbished version of the original iMac DV, with a CD-ROM drive instead of a DVD-ROM drive. The iMac DV was supplied with 64 MB of RAM, a 56 kbps modem, and Apple's Pro Mouse, and was available in Indigo or Ruby, all for $999 USD. The iMac DV+ built on the success of the iMac DV. The processor speed was increased to 450 MHz and the hard drive was doubled to 20 GB, while the price decreased. The iMac DV+ was supplied with 64 MB of RAM, a 56 kbps modem, Apple's Pro Mouse, and was available in Indigo, Ruby, or Sage, all for $1299 USD. The iMac DV SE (Summer 2000) built on the great success of the iMac DV SE. The processor speed was increased to 500 MHz, the hard drive was more than doubled to 30 GB, and a new color option was added (White).

Trivia

• In 2000, Apple offered three versions of the iMac at different prices: the base version at just $799 without AirPort slot, the DV at $999 with CD-ROM drive, and the DV+ at $1299 with 450 MHz processor and 20 GB hard disk. • The iMac Summer 2000 introduced Apple's Pro Mouse and Pro Keyboard, accessories that represented the new design standard of the Cupertino house for peripherals. • The color range of the Summer 2000 iMacs was extraordinarily varied: in addition to Indigo and Ruby colors, Sage and Snow were also available, reflecting the playful and colorful approach that characterized Apple design of that era.
