History

The PowerCD is a rebranded version of the Philips CDF-100 that was adapted by Apple's Mac Like Things group and marketed in 1993. It included two 3.5 mm jacks for audio output to headphones and speakers. A custom A/V connector could be connected to an adapter cable to transmit audio and video to a television monitor. It also included a separate module that connected through a custom connector to provide a SCSI port, a power adapter port, and a compartment for eight AA battery cells. However, battery life during use was reportedly poor. The software included a PowerCD Audio desktop accessory. When used without a computer, it could be controlled via a supplied remote control. A navy blue version had been designed for the consumer market, but was never officially released to the public.
