History

Although the 150 was based on the same Kodak hardware as the previous QuickTake 100, Apple improved the image compression technology. The improved compression allowed the QuickTake 150 to capture 16 images at maximum quality or 32 at standard quality, with both quality levels now stored at the full 640×480 resolution in the 1 MB of integrated EPROM memory. Apple offered a factory upgrade to the QuickTake 100, renaming it QuickTake 100 Plus, which included all the features of the QuickTake 150. The QuickTake 150 kit also included PhotoFlash software (for Macintosh) or PhotoNow! (for Windows) and a separate close-focus lens that modified the focusing range to 10-14 inches (25-36 cm) and properly diffused the flash. Apple also offered several accessories for the QuickTake 150, including a travel case, an AC adapter, a power booster battery pack (using 8 AA batteries), and a connection kit for Microsoft Windows. In the same period, Kodak introduced its DC40, which used a similar design and hardware to the QuickTake 150, but captured images at an increased resolution in larger internal memory. The QuickTake 150 sensor was the same one used in the DC40, but masked to a lower resolution; the DC40 instead used the entire sensor.
