History

The Apple Pencil is a digital pen that functions as an input device for iPad Pro. The Apple Pencil features pressure sensitivity and tilt detection. Within a plastic casing is integrated a Bluetooth device capable of communicating simultaneously with the display and the underlying system. The pen can detect force, allowing, for example, darker or lighter strokes in a drawing app depending on how hard the user presses. The Apple Pencil was designed to have low latency in order to enable fluid ink on the screen. iPad Pro also enables simultaneous use of an Apple Pencil and the user's fingers, rejecting input from the palm of the hand. One end of the Apple Pencil is equipped with a removable magnetic cap. Beneath this cap is a Lightning connector, which allows the pen's battery to be recharged via the iPad Pro's own Lightning port. The initial charge lasts approximately 12 hours, but 15 seconds connected to the iPad Pro's Lightning connector allow the user to return to work for another thirty minutes. The user can also use the included Lightning-to-Lightning adapter to recharge via a standard Lightning cable.
