History

The Newton Message Pad 2000 was a complete mobile computer equipped with a wide range of software, including a web browser, email client, word processor, fax software, calendar and address book, and was even able to record voice messages up to one hour on its 4 MB memory card. However, the main advantage over its predecessor (MP 130) was the new processor. The 160 MHz StrongARM processor significantly accelerated all Newton Message Pad 2000 operations. The MP 2000 was subsequently released as the Message Pad 2100, the first Newton equipped with an Ethernet network card.

• The Newton Message Pad 2000 could record up to one hour of audio thanks to its 4 MB memory card, making it one of the first mobile devices capable of capturing voice messages. • The StrongARM processor at 160 MHz represented a huge technological leap compared to its predecessor MP 130, significantly accelerating all device operations. • The Message Pad 2100, the successor version of the MP 2000, was the first Newton in history to include an Ethernet network card, paving the way for wireless connectivity on portable devices.
