History

The PowerBook G3 "Bronze Keyboard" series was announced in May 1999. It included several improvements over the previous PowerBook G3, including the addition of built-in USB and the option of a built-in MPEG-2 decoder. The main news, however, was that the "Bronze" was 20 percent thinner than its predecessor, lighter by almost two pounds, and boasted significantly longer battery life. The PowerBook G3 "Bronze Keyboard" was available in two configurations: the 333 MHz model was initially sold for $2,499 USD, while the 400 MHz model cost $3,499 USD. Although Steve Jobs had originally announced a ship date of May 20, few units were shipped before mid-June.
