History

Introduced in June 2012, the MacBook Air (13-inch, mid-2012) was based on Intel's new-generation "Ivy Bridge" architecture and represented an improvement over its predecessor, the MacBook Air (13-inch, mid-2011), with faster processors and graphics and USB 3.0. It was marketed in two configurations: Intel Core i5 at 1.8 GHz, 128 GB SSD, 4 GB of RAM, $1,199 USD and Intel Core i5 at 1.8 GHz, 256 GB SSD, 4 GB of RAM, $1,499 USD. Integrated 8 GB of RAM was available as a custom configuration option (no third-party RAM upgrade was possible). Options for the high-end model included a dual-core Intel Core i7 at 2.0 GHz and a 512 GB flash storage unit.
