History

In October 2012, a new iMac model was introduced featuring a monitor depth considerably thinner than previous models, measuring 5 mm at its thinnest point. The 21.5" and 27" screens maintained their previous resolutions, respectively 1920x1080 and 2560x1440. RAM memory was upgraded; the standard configuration is now 8 GB, with an optional maximum of 16 GB on the 21.5" model. Apple also updated the computer processors, using Core i5 and Core i7 based on Intel's Ivy Bridge architecture. Video cards are now Nvidia series. USB 3.0 ports were included for the first time. The 2012 iMac also offers the option of a Fusion Drive that combines an SSD and a conventional hard disk to create more efficient and faster storage.
