History

In October 2012 a new iMac model was presented characterized by a screen depth notably inferior compared to previous models, measuring 5 mm at its thinnest point. The 21.5" and 27" screens maintained their previous resolutions, respectively 1920x1080 and 2560x1440. The RAM was updated; the standard specification is now 8 GB, with an optional maximum of 16 GB on the 21.5" model. Apple also updated the computer processors, using the Core i5 and Core i7 architecture based on Intel's Ivy Bridge. Video cards are now Nvidia as standard. USB 3.0 ports are included for the first time. The 2012 iMac also offers the option of a Fusion Drive that combines an SSD and a conventional hard drive to create more efficient and faster storage.
