History

In October 2012, a new iMac model was presented characterized by a considerably reduced screen depth compared to previous models, measuring 5 mm at its thinnest point. The 21.5" and 27" screens maintained their previous resolutions, respectively 1920x1080 and 2560x1440. RAM memory was upgraded; the standard specification is now 8 GB, with 16 GB as the maximum optional on the 21.5" model. Apple also updated the computer processors, using Core i5 and Core i7 based on Intel's Ivy Bridge microarchitecture. Graphics cards are now Nvidia by default. USB 3.0 ports are included for the first time. The 2012 iMac also offers the option of a Fusion Drive that combines an SSD and a conventional hard drive to create more efficient and faster storage.
